ALL the safety concerns they face in their day-to-day work.
Back injuries can still happen during a pandemic!
We recently surveyed thousands of caregivers and learned that one in four had been injured while transferring a client. And if you think that’s a lot, consider this: The actual number is likely much higher because most injuries go unreported.
The survey also revealed a direct link between safety and caregiver retention. At least 30% of the caregivers polled admitted that they had quit a job because of a safety concern.
What are the consequences?
- Injuries that go unreported can turn into chronic problems that lead to excessive absenteeism, and can even drive a caregiver to leave the profession altogether for a safer job.
- Minor injuries can land caregivers on “light duty” assignments, requiring employers to hire additional staff or place a heavier burden on other team members.
- Serious injuries can lead to expensive workers’ compensation claims, extended medical leave, and even disability.
Can injuries be prevented?
You can’t prevent all work-related injuries. But there are some things you can do to reduce the likelihood that they will happen.
