Abuse and Neglect for Clinicians and Administrators

This course covers foundational information on the topic along with clinician and administrator responsibilities in prevention, detection, and reporting of suspected abuse and neglect on a federal level. Resources are provided to assist in locating state reporting entities.

  • Compare the prevalence of abuse and neglect in three at-risk groups in the community (children, intimate partners, elders).
  • Identify at least three common signs and symptoms for each of five forms of abuse (physical, sexual, emotional, financial, neglect) in the senior population.
  • Recognize at least three factors that contribute to the risk for becoming a victim or perpetrator of abuse.
  • Determine at least two appropriate interventions in response to patients in immediate danger from abuse or neglect.
