Caring for the LGBTQ+ Community

This course covers the health care challenges and specific health needs of the LGBTQ+ community. Learners will develop their skills in using correct terminology, appropriate assessment and communication practices, and creating an inclusive environment of care. The course provides ample opportunity to practice new skills in the many patient and client scenarios.

Use inclusive terminology best practices when interacting with members of the LGBTQ+ community in patient scenarios.
Identify common barriers to healthcare experienced by members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Identify legal challenges that impact care planning for LGBTQ+ community members.
Distinguish between supportive assessment practices and harmful assessment practices in patient scenarios.
Articulate best practice responses in typical LGBTQ+ patient scenarios.
