Rexburg, Idaho, March 15, 2023—HCP, the leading provider of experience management, training, and reputation management in the post-acute industry, has partnered with Hospice pioneer Barbara Karnes to provide exclusive online courses based on her library of renowned end-of-life materials.

Barbara Karnes is an award-winning end-of-life educator and nurse who received the NHPCO Hospice Innovator Award in 2018 and was the 2015 International Humanitarian Woman of the Year. Her end-of life care series consists of four courses applicable to anyone involved in the care of people at the end of their lives and will continue to expand over the coming months:

  • The Dynamics of Dying
  • Physical Care at End-of-Life
  • Supporting Patient Choices and Directives at End-of-Life
  • Communication Skills and End-Of-Life Care

“We’re thrilled to host and share Barbara’s extensive end-of-life knowledge through the HCP Training platform,” said Linda Leekley, Chief Clinical Officer at HCP. “End-of-life care brings unique challenges to care providers, those receiving care, and their families—so it’s important to have the knowledge and skills care for those experiencing a terminal illness. These courses will change the way providers are able to meet the needs of their customers.”

According to Barbara Karnes, “Dying is not a physical event. It’s not a medical event. It’s an emotional, communal, and social event. You don’t have to have a medical degree to support a person who’s dying and/or their family. What you need is knowledge in the dying process.”

This training will immediately be available in HCP’s course catalog for all post-acute care businesses.
