Access Exclusive End-of-Life Training Courses Authored by Barbara Karnes

Hospice pioneer, Barbara Karnes, has selected HCP as the exclusive provider of online courses based on her library of renowned end-of-life materials.

Who is Barbara Karnes? Barbara Karnes is an award-winning end-of-life educator and nurse. While at the bedside of hundreds of people during the dying process, she noticed that each death was following a near-identical script. Each person was going through the stages of death in almost the same manner, and most families came to her with similar questions. These realizations led Barbara to sit down and write Gone From My Sight, “The Little Blue Book” that changed the hospice industry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are your courses accredited for continuing education in our state?

While the HCP clinician courses count nationally across the U.S. towards nurse licensures for ANCC contact hours, every state and specific type of advanced certification may have additional requirements for you and your staff to independently monitor.

We offer a wide range of recommended annual training for home care, home health, and hospice focused roles. Our annual recommendations can likely fulfill every organization’s individual staff education and general compliance plans for all roles.

How does pricing work?

Pricing is calculated based on the size of your care staff. You will get a limited number of learner seats based on your plan.  You can use our pricing calculator to estimate the monthly rate for your agency.

Your monthly rate includes access to the entire clinical and non-clinical care training library. In addition to choosing a standard annual learning path, you can go beyond and assign additional courses as your staff’s training needs change during a calendar year and give your staff the opportunity to take additional courses on their own time.

Do you have training for social workers, spiritual counselors, and other key roles?

The licensure required by social workers, spiritual counselors (chaplains), bereavement and volunteer coordinators, and other hospice clinicians varies widely. While we can only currently provide ANCC accredited contact hours for nurses, we nonetheless provide continuing education for all roles that usually meets or exceeds individual organizational standards.

How often do you update your courses? Who is ensuring they are updated?

The HCP Content Team has a very intentional course roadmap that is strategically planned utilizing ANCC policy-based review processes. The roadmap directly reflects this review process and is based on direct feedback from organizations and individual learners, regulatory updates, and new industry best practices.

The Training Manager Newsletter is a great quarterly tool that can be used by organizations as a reference page for recent news and updated courses.

Who writes the content?

We have a dedicated clinical content team made up of seasoned registered nurses with decades of experience working in the acute and post-acute medical fields.

In addition, when they are not writing our courses, our content team routinely serves the hospice industry by giving webinars, panel discussions, writing blogs, and being thought leaders on real-life current hospice issues.

Why does HCP offer hospice training?

HCP started out by helping home care agencies improve their business operations through survey tools and reputation management. As we grew, we expanded to incorporate an extensive industry-leading library of education for care professionals in various areas of the care continuum.

We have noticed that the Hospice industry also craves different training opportunities, and we are excited to now be able to fulfill them. By expanding our course offerings, we can actually train both home health and hospice agency staff members.
